What is Plant Pathology?

Plant pathology is the scientific study of plant diseases caused by pathogens. Plant pathogens include fungi (Fusarium, Alternaria), oomycetes (Phytophthora, Pythium), bacteria (Erwinia, Xanthomonas), viruses, phytoplasmas and nematodes. Plant pathology is an interdisciplinary science that includes knowledge of plant biology, microbiology, molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry and ecology.
